This university has increasingly become a major project for Amani Educational Services Inc., with an increasing number of students from Kenya enrolling for PhD studies in Development Studies. A major attraction is the Foundation that enables African students to complete their studies with a tuition fee waiver and no residential requirements. Amani is involved in two ways;
- Stuart Fowler, as an Adjunct Professor at UFH, is able to supervise students against the background of his extensive knowedge of Kenya
- Amani has established a trust fund to support students unable to pay even the modest application and enrolment fees.
With the increasing number of students enrolled and advancing age, Stuart will not be able to supervise them all, but can provide occasional assistance. He is planning to supervise a maximum of three students. |
This is a project aimed at alleviating the massive problem of hunger in rural South Africa. It is NOT an aid programme, but a self-help approach to the problem using the Co-operatve model. Our role is twofold:
To provide an initial injection of finance to get the project off the ground. The amount of this varies according to the nature of the project. To date we have enabled three projects; a co-operative engaged in making and selling concrete building bricks. This required only a small injection of start-up funds, two other agricultural co-operatives to grow food for the people required a much larger amount in order to sink a bore and buy the irrigation equipment needed to get the water to the crops
To provide some training in managing the finances of the co-operative ventures, a task for which Prof Thakhathi is well qualified.
